SKIN TESTING
- Age 5 and older
- Performed on the back or arms; results available in 20 minutes.
- Visit duration: ~1 hour.
- Appropriate for evaluation of: trees, grasses, weeds, molds, dust mites, and animal danders.
- Skin testing not appropriate for patients with history of anaphylaxis, uncontrolled asthma, pregnancy, or beta-blocker use.
- Avoid: antihistamines (e.g., Benadryl, Claritin), H2 blockers, and TCAs (e.g., amitriptyline, doxepin) 1 week prior
- Allowed: asthma inhalers, PPIs, guaifenesin, and nasal sprays except azelastine and Dymista.

SERUM TESTING
Serum testing can also be performed by our office. Outside IgE results within the past 3 months can be provided to our office and used in prescribing SLIT. The cost is about $5 per allergen tested.
SUBLINGUAL IMMUNOTHERAPY (SLIT)
Cost is $150-175/3 months via mail order
Improvement seen in 3-6 months, duration of treatment 3-5 years
